What really matters to you?
And what are you doing about it?
So, what is it? What is it that really matters to you?
A few years ago I asked around 200 people what matters most to them.
Nobody said money.
Nobody said status.
Nobody said nice long eyelashes, puffy lips or the right sized booty.
And nobody said a nice car, home or wardrobe.
The question did however garnish two types of responses:
- Responses about home, family and self: health, family, connections, culture and how they feel (happy, safe, sane)
- Responses about the broader world: environment, inclusiveness, a safe world for children
And if I asked people to identify more than one thing it would usually result in a combination of these things.
There is absolutely no doubt it’s so much easier to be busy, to keep pushing, keep moving, keep going than to stop and what many would call ‘naval gaze’ about the things that matter.
Perhaps this is why we have so many ill thought through public policies, watered down community strategies and people walking around with their eyeballs hanging down to their cheeks. Because we are tired, half baked and disconnected.
